Richard Kline (the RK in RK Auto Group) became a Virginia Chevrolet dealer in 1964 when he founded RK Chevrolet at its original location of 616 Virginia Beach Blvd. Since then, there have been four additions to RK Auto Group: RK Toyota, RK Scion, RK Buick and RK Subaru. All were founded on a dedication to superior customer service at every stage of the car-buying experience.

- 1949: Richard Kline joins his father in the automobile business and becomes the youngest dealer in the United States.
- 1952: Richard Kline starts the first leasing company in the state of Virginia.
- 1962: As a Virginia Chevrolet dealer who would soon found RK Chevrolet, Richard is elected to the National Chevrolet Dealer Planning council.
- 1963: Richard Kline ran the largest leasing company in the state of Virginia at that time.
- 1964: Richard Kline acquires an old gas station and converts it, creating a new Virginia Chevrolet dealer: RK Chevrolet. He employs a total of 10 people. Today, the company employs over 300 people.
- 1967: RK Chevrolet moves to its present location at 2661 Virginia Beach Boulevard (also the address of RK Buick and RK Subaru).
- 1967: Early success: a total of 24 employees and 480 vehicles sold.
- 1968: To make shopping more convenient for customers, Kline constructs a new facility on Virginia Beach Blvd., 5 miles west of the original location.
- 1975: As a community leader, Richard Kline conceives of and launches the Neptune Festival to maintain the influx of Virginia Beach tourists after Labor Day. The Neptune Festival has become an annual legacy, spanning a course of 10 days each September.
